I think my car is giving up on me.

I changed the flexible blind (jalousie) in the gear selector lever slot less than five years ago. It's broken again.  The factory original lasted 9 years.  It's not an impossible repair, but I will see if I can bodge it.  Must finish painting the bathroom first.  Today was so hot the paint was drying so fast, the pot started to skin over, and the brush was sticking to the wall before I had finished the brushstroke!
