The last of the 2.2's are probably the best, they don't seem to suffer from as many diesel pump problems unlike some of the earlier cars. I think that's about the only thing that goes wrong on them that's an expensive repair.

It seems to me that the last of the 2.2tid's are actually a very good buy. The engine may be a bit agricultural and possibly a bit underpowered for the 95 estate body, but it's still got enough oomph for most day-to-day purposes.
Agreed on the Farmer Giles front, but if you can get a Steinbauer or Hirsch upgrade on it, it makes a heck of a difference. I'd have another 2.2...but I'd take my P-Box with me!

Bu99er - can't take my Hirsch with me :(

Must admit it does make the car a nicer drive

The difficulty now is finding an old shape 2.2 estate with low miles and reasonable spec. The youngest is now 7 years old. If I could find one in very good condition, good history & spec with up to 50k ish on the clock I would change mine, but it's becoming increasingly difficult.
I've had a V70 in the past and agree they're good cars, but they do have a terrible turning circle and the boot lid on the estate doesn't go up high enough if you're tall.

50K on the clock???

Mine had 95K when I bought it. I can't think when I last bought a car with under 60K under its belt....that's just getting properly run-in with yer modern diesels.

That would be mine then registered Sept 2005.........................less than 80k you sooner find hens teeth!

I know I'm not asking for much!! But as I do around 30-35k per annum, I would like one with sub 60k on the clock ideally do I can run for at least 4 years before changing again. Will probably have to buy a newer shape one in the end. But you never know...I regularly check on Autotrader. There was one quite recently that sold to the first person who viewed it. Shame as I was very interested.

Well, that's decided. I'll keep it going and see whether I get to 200,000 without anything going pop. I'll just go out and polish up the headlights when the rain stops: they're getting a bit hazy.

That's what I'm doing.
I'm not one for buying new cars though, I have 3 cars with a combined age of 70 years !

I always reckon that paying more for a car than the price of a good square meal is extravagant.

Norfolk Jim

Crickey - a good square meal! I begrudge paying any more than a tenner for a good meal! Especially when the goods on the plate cost less than a pound to buy :)

Think you must be paying over the odds for food steventon95 .....he he

Geoff Geoff help me outta here. You know the cost of a good square meal having just come back from Sicily .....................................

Well... I've been reading without logging in for a few days now. My first thought was how quiet the forum's been.
