Well today's job wasn't on the house or the Saab.

I bought a brand new rear parking sensor kit on Ebay a few months back and have been meaning to fit them to my son's Focus estate since then, but decorating etc in the wake of all the building work we've had done took priority.

But today......finally.....was the day. Drilling the bumper was ok because standard sensors normally go in an unpainted black strip on the bottom of the rear bumper. With the back end of the car on ramps, access to the back of the bumper was easy too.

The fiddly stuff was securing all the cables and then feeding them through a grommet in the  rear quarter floor area. But it all went quite well, and once we'd fathomed out which lead in the rear light cluster was the live for the reversing light, we were sorted.

I think the kit cost about £28, and it did take about 2 or 3 hours to fit it, make sure it worked, and put all the trim back together. But if I'd taken the car somewhere to get them fitted, it would have  cost around £250!!!!

So, I'll take that as a win I think ;)

Sounds a good job! :)

I helped a firend fit a kit years ago.  There was a sound unit that gave the beeps and the instructions showed you how to install the sounder under the dash. Since the sound was loud (and adjustable) we decided that fitting it in the boot behind the rear seat was near enough, and saved a lot of trim removal.
