I have a 2002 93 aero, does anyone know if its possible to fit a cd player from a newer saab in? Mine looks dated and dont want to get a kenwood etc with flasing eq levels and bad plastic housing on the dashboard.

Any advice would be helpful? ::)

Do you mean the one in the dash or the boot?

The 2002 Aero was the last of the old style hatchbacks.  The 9-3SS took over after that.  So there won't be nything newer from Saab.  The 9-3SS stuff was completely different and worked on fibre optics.

9-5 stuff is a completely different shape.  Aftermarket is the only option.

Have you tried taking it out and unplugging for a while. You know what saabs are like for resetting things this way.

For aircraft it's an official fix! We call it re-racking. Usually radio or avionics boxes not playing the game. Might just be a cruddy connector or something

Run a CD pickup cleaner through it. The lens on the laser pickup can get dirty over time and then the discs start to malfunction.

Specifically the 9-3SS, I understand that the carriage for the CD can lose its lubricant for its moving parts over time, and that a silicon grease relub will do the trick, and I would assume that this may apply to other players in other cars, if a laser clean does not do the trick, as it has with me. Another job I have to do.

I found a cotton-bud with isopropyl alcohol much more effective than the disc with the brush on it.... That's assuming you can reach the pick-up  :-\
