Is 3mm too close? Brakes.

I bought some nice new 18 inch wheels for my wife's Carlsson.  41mm offset.  But the spokes only clear the face of the big 345mm brake calliper by 3mm.

Seems a bit close to me.  I'm not a fan of spacers, just another stress point on the bolt.  Bolt length, etc.

That's 3mm drill bit.  A 4mm drill won't go in.

Close!
Don't seem to have heard about the Carlsson, IIRC the last post was about passing the 9-3 to the grandson, and you were a one-car family?

I run Alu22 16" 5 spoke on my 314mm brakes alll winter (4 yrs now), with a similar clearance

Beautiful!

But when I click that link, I get this -

It will be... It's the Staffroom...

Beat me to it.   I was copying it all here....

Oh!  *******!!  ::) ::)

That thread is in the "Staffroom"....

Some pictures here.  It's basically a Turbo X with, I think, slightly softer suspension and all the toys. And only with a 6 speed automatic gearbox.

Hirsch leather dashboard, door handles and handbrake.
Carbon fibre trim around the gear lever and glovebox.
Heated seats.
Electric/memory seats.
Satnav.
Bose audio.
Rain sensing wipers.
Steerable headlamps.

And stuff like that... :)

only thing i'd be worrying about is,will the caliper be catching the wheel when new pads are fitted..

sgould

Pads are brand new! :)  and, it's the fixed bit that's close.  (I think!!  :o )

I don't think it's a problem. I had to run spacers (made up of 3mm alu) with ALU59s over the Hirsch/Brembo 4 pots as they just touched the calipers without.

Under heavy cornering the wheels will deflect under load. Straight ahead stuff you shouldn't worry, but put it on a track and hope that it wont catch...I think 3mm is OK though.
