Slightly confused on the sump sealing :-\

WIS says you are to use Loctite 5699 grey high temperature RTV sealant in just 4 small places. There are no signs of an residues on either engine

Then again, there's a thick rubber gasket, which shouldn't need any additional sealing

Then both engines have what looks like anaerobic sealant on the flange of the engine block, which is not mentioned in WIS. But there are no residues of that on the flange or the sump

Any thoughts ?

I can't remember, but I think the rubber seal is fine. Sometimes the instructions given on the way to reseal things is different to how it was assembled in the factory. I'd rely on that gasket and only do something different if it leaks.

Cheers !

Looks like I made the right choice

We have a runner  :Fawlty:

For the first time my suction bleeder did what it was supposed to, and a combination of bleeding, easy start, undoing the injector nuts got her started

She kept dying though, had her running for 4 minutes & then she just died.

Eventually I saw a p0606 error code, which was not welcome, but then after looking in WIS I realised it was a P686 code. Easily solved because I realised quite quickly that some numpty hadn't tightened up the earth strap onto the inlet manifold (replacing the one onto the EGR, just for ease of disassembly, and she's been running for 20 minutes, still not up to working temperature though

The sump seems OK, maybe one bit of weeping, but that might be diesel washing old oil down

Tomorrow we shall see if she wants to start all on her own

It's a 2.2 diesel, it sounds like a bloody tractor  ;D

But it is really nice to hear her running

Indeed, lots of tidying up to do, tools to clean, oil to clean off the floor, then reassemble the interior which was taken apart when I was tracing wiring, check the sump for leaks before fitting the undertrays

Then we will see if the brake discs will clean up without much effort

Apparently, I have a rear light out as well

Might have to get an oil filter to go along with the fresh oil. Bit of a shame I had to leave the old one in

Then I have to decide what to do with her

You can get false rear bulb problems if the bulb is pushed in too far.  It will turn past the  right point and the twin contacts can short.  Press the brakes and the sidelights may come on, and the ignition may not turn off properly, even thoughyou has taken the key out.
