The return spring has stopped working ie the key doesn't return from the starter position. Does anyone know if I can strip and repair it, or is it a case of having to get a replacement?

Welcome! :)

I don't think that the 9000 ignition switch can be repaired.  I may be wrong though, but the steering column type switches are usually well sealed as they are more  vulnerable to forced entry etc.

You may be able to drill out some rivets and replace them with bolts afterwards.

I assume it's not just a case of needing lubrication?

Easy repair new switch ref 4946315 from Parts for Saabs price £57.78.

Loosen two allen grub screws remove switch replace with new one.
Allow 90 mins for the job as the cowling needs to be removed as do the column stalk switches. I've just done this job myself.

Cheers Dave

No need to remove stalks.  Just the lower part of the cowl and the ignition switch itself.  Did it on the street outside a chum's house in a foreign land in 15 minutes.

Wasn't sure about this job as you would not have hand controls in the way as I do.
