Nice one!
Easy enough fix? I'll have a go this weekend!

Turns out it's a fairly common problem with an easy(ish) fix:

Another thing to keep me busy this weekend.... :D

That was my worry - that working on the loom may well disturb more than I fix. Everything else works fine, so it would be a shame to create more problems.

I think I'll just get some power direct from the battery to test that it all works and, if so, run a direct supply in as you suggest with an inline fuse.

Thanks for all your thoughts and assistance. What a wonderful forum !!

Thank you very much.

I'll have a look at the weekend. Having the amp fire up only when the ignition is on won't be an issue, so there's a possible alternative sorted.

 :)

Thank you very much - I'll have a look when I get an hour or two.

I suppose my next concern is that I get into the loom and find it's like a birds nest, particularly as the crimp is only 30mm away from the fuse board. That's not much slack wire - will it be difficult to separate the wires to work on?

Worst case scenario, and I have to find an alternative power supply. Can I just take it from the cigar lighter ?

Thanks again.

Thank you - that's very helpful.

Would the central locking still be operational if there was an issue with that crimp connection ?

Does fuse 13 connect to the amp, or is that a red herring ?

I appreciate your time.

Sorry for the confusion... It's down to my poor memory combined with trying to answer posts when nowhere near the car !
To summarise [correctly this time]

I do indeed have a fuse 25 and it's intact. Central locking all works fine.

The other fuses marked as radio are intact too, as is the fuse in the amplifier.

There is an amp in the passenger footwell but the black plug power supply to it seems to be dead, which I think must be the problem. [I should get a voltage across the black and red wires when the ignition is ON and the radio is switched on, shouldn't I?]. This leads me to ask if there is a fuse nearer the battery for the amp, as that's standard practice for post-factory installs.

There are speakers in the doors, which are connected to the green plug at the amp [I get a complete circuit from +ve to ground for both sides].

I'll try connecting the amp directly to the battery and see what happens.....

Thanks.

It is confusing... Even more so when all the fuses are good and I still have no power to the amp....
Is there an inline fuse near the battery? When I had an amp installed on a previous car, they put a fuse in the engine bay (to keep any fires out of the passenger area).
If not fuses, what else could it be?
And, for a short cut, could I splice the amp into the cigar lighter power?
Thanks again.

That is a mystery...

I'm sure they should move into place by themselves - one of mine does, the other I have to manually slide into position.

Good luck!

Neil

Oh... Maybe not then!

I have an amp in the passenger footwell that matches the description of an AS3 one. There are 3 connectors - a din lead, wires to speakers and a power supply.

The power supply is dead.

Thanks,

Neil

Intake I you've had the rear door cards off and there's nothing to report....

I think I'll have a look next weekend. Can you let me know if you find anything out?

Thanks,

Neil

Sorry to hear that... Good luck!

I bought some of the Lucas additive too, but haven't added it yet as, after buying, I read somewhere that it can damage the rams quite considerably in the long run....mind you, it was posted by a ram-refurbishing company!

I thought I'd keep it until I get a heavier leak and there's nothing to lose!

Best wishes

One of mine doesn't work either....

Did you ever get to the bottom of what needed repairing?

14
Thank you for the response!
I don't have a fuse in space 25....which could be the problem, although it appears to be for something else. Can't remember what it says now...
On the card inside the fuse cover it says fuse 24 is for the radio, along with another fuse.
When I remove fuse 24 the radio stays on, so I assume it's for the amp.
Fuse 24 is 7.5A and not blown (unfortunately)

Hi folks,
I picked up a 1999 SE vert a couple if weeks ago. There's no sound coming from the door speakers so obviously a problem with the amp. I stripped it out of the car and checked the fuse inside, which was fine.
Next, I checked the DIN lead to see if there was a feed going to the amp when the radio was switched on, which there was.....
Next I checked the power to the amp. And there is none, whether the radio is on or off. Bugger.
Checked fuse 24 and that's fine too.

Does the amp go through a different fuse? If so, which one?
Where does it ground to?
Any other ideas?

Thanks folks!
