Hi all

Made a mistake entering the code after having the battery off.

Now I get four dashes instead of enter code so no radio.

I've detached the battery again and left it stand for an hour or so but to no avail.

Any ideas guys.

Welcome! :)

As I understand it the Saab 9000 will need a code if the power is disconnected.  There is no way around this; you will have to find the code.

There are possibly three ways.

1. If it is the original radio, a Saab dealer should be able to find the code for you.

2. Many radios, especially if they have ever been serviced after purchase, have the code scratched into the case by the repairer, or stuck onto a label.  Pull the radio out and have a look.

3. Sometimes the code is written in the original documentation somewhere.  If you still have any, give it close inspection.

Which radio unit is this? If it's the same as the one in my 900 I did the same thing a couple of weeks ago. There's a procedure to reset it so you can enter the code again. I'll have a look in the manual when I get home this evening :)

Doh! I misread your post.  You know the code...  ::)

If you only entered the wrong code once, you don't have to do the 1 hour wait process.

To try entering the code again it's only necessary to hold the "band" button in for at least three seconds. That should give you another chance to get it right.

If, for some reason, you enter the wrong code three times, that's when you have to wait an hour. Note: if it ever comes to this, the radio must be hot during the wait period (i.e. key in the run position and radio powered up).

Yep, that's the one - press and hold the 'Band' button.

Thanks guys it was the band button, all ok now as far as the radio is concerned.
This is the sort of useful information that could be incorporated into a knowledge base.
