Hi everyone,

I need to change pads and discs all round on my SAAB 9-3 anniversary 1.9tid, I know sometimes there are 2 different brake types fitted, just wondering if any of you helpful people can save me the hassle of taking all wheels off to have a look,

Anyone know which type, much appreciated :-)

ps ITS THE EARLY 2007 model pre-facelift

You should have suspension and brake codes on your VIN plate in the door shut.  If you tell us what's there, we might be able to tell you (as long as Saab actually put the codes on the label)

VIN plate is at the bottom of the B pillar on the sill in the front door shut.

Later cars had several more codes along the bottom.  the first 6 are suspension.  7 to 10 are the brake codes.

I have a full set of codes on my 9-5...

The second couple describes the rear discs

My badge says    16-AL-4-3-25-32-AA-BA-CA-DA. i JUST CAN'T WORK IT OUT :(.
Also, do I need to change any other components if I fit Eibach springs?

Thanks all.

Welcome! :)

The Eibach springs work best with sport suspension, but will work with standard original springs.

Which part don't you believe? It's the bigger roll bar which is fitted as standard to the models with "sport chassis" it's unlikely to be the smaller roll bar fitted and the label being incorrect.

sgould

It's the "sports chassis" bit that I don't believe.  It might be the bigger bar, but it's fitted as standard in that year, it seems.

Especially as the spring listed above is specifically described as "standard chassis".

Our old 2003 car definitely had the sport chassis.  It was described as such on the original spec, it measured up in height as standard, and it was certainly harsh enough.  But when you checked the parts list, only a couple of the six items were actually named as "sport chassis".  So it became the norm to assume that as long as one item on the car was listed as "sport chassis", the car did have that suspension, but around 2005 things got confused and some parts that were previously listed for the sport chassis on the petrol car, we're standard on the diesel, and some ARBs were fitted that didn't appear in the list for the correct year.

...but that is the arb for the sport chassis, I bet if you got a 1.8i that you'd find it had the smaller bar for example. Just because the rest of the suspension isn't sports chassis doesn't mean that some of the components aren't from that class.

sgould

I'm not questioning that it's the "sports" ARB on the car.  I just think its misleading to describe it as "sports chassis" when the rest of the suspension is standard and the car (probably) does not have the full sports suspension.

I think that ARB was part of the full sport suspension on earlier cars, but the description wasn't changed when it was decided to fit it to cars with otherwise standard suspension a year or two later.

Well, yes, that still makes it part of the sports chassis kit, it makes sense to me but then that might be due to having to order parts in the past and knowing how things get confused. It would be very confusing to have a part that was sometimes described as sports chassis hence why you would never change the name

And just to show Even Saab didn't Really keep up to date with it, I have front ARB Code 3... this isn't even listed in EPC.

You must have an older EPC! certainly is listed in mine (2010-2).

For a 2008 93ss?

Edit: oops, my error, I meant code 3 for the rear ARB...
