Headlamp washers
« on: 02 January 2012, 07:42:37 PM »
Hi all first post on here, owned a 9-5 lpt for a few years and recentley bought a 2006 Aero dame edna, may have been a bad move but its a lot of car for not much money. washer fluid was low so filled it up today to find water pouring out from under drivers side headlamp has anyone had to work on these pop out washers, can they be accessed from under the wheelarch or does the bumper need to come off
cheers Mike

Welcome :)

Replacement of the washer is effected by removing the headlamp. You can then access the bolts securing it. If it's not a detached hose then it may be a split in the plastic housing caused by running too weak screen wash solution to prevcent freezing.

I have a feeling that to remove a headlamp on a dame edna you need to remove the bumper....  :o

Only the plastic bumper cover. Lots of the plastic fasteners and some screws.

To undo the black plastic fasteners use the screwdriver handle from the boot toolkit. The lump on the top of the handle pushes the centre in the right amount, then you pull the whole fastener out in one.

It's worth pointing out that not all the screwdriver handles have that lump on the top on them!

yes managed to look at a later version of WIS than mine and you do have to remove the bumper shell to gain access to the washers it mentions a special tool to remove the nozzles so you can unscrew the washer from the bumper but it looks like a small pry bar! has anyone removed a jet before I'm guessing the nozzle pulls off or there is a clip to remove it, its not that clear on the EPC.If nobodys done it before I'll just have to chance it, don't want to end up breaking it, plastics a bit brittle this weather

Not sure about the jets.  You may not have to remove the bumper fully. Just to do the headlamp.

The WIS recommends laying a blanket on the ground if you do remove the bumper completely.

And if the screwdriver does have the lump, this is how it's used....
