Headlamp Xenon bulbs, Indicator bulbs etc.
« on: 14 February 2012, 05:02:17 PM »
One of my headlights is flickering.  It's been this way for a while.  But I plan to get a spare.  The 9-5 uses a D1S Xenon bulb, the one with the square base.

Is there a make of bulb that comes with a D2S bulb (without a base) and a separate base?

Given the price, a bulb in two bits would leave me able to share a spare for the 9-3 Vector which takes a D1S.  The 9-3 is on it's original bulbs and is nearly 10 years old.  Any good sources of cheap ones?  Preferably genuine........

Indicator bulbs: The 2007 9-5 has PW24Y front indicator bulbs.  These are the ones normally fitted to BMWs.  They are soldered to a plastic base and come in one bit.  I need a spare for continental trips and I was looking for a silvered one, but I can't find any with a cursory look at Google.  I'm sure that there must be some if they fit a BMW.  But the only ones I've seen are LED ones that say they are OK with a canbus etc. and don't affect the flashing rate or any bulb failure warning.

Yes, you can get D1S's that come in 2 parts as a D2S and Ignitor, which when togetehr look like a D1S.

I was looking at them when  I needed 2 new D1S's

Welcome to STT, 900Aero

My preference is that of the OEM- circa 4300k. Above that, the lamp efficiency decreases so you get less light output, and glare increases. And the bluer it gets, the more you look like a chav IMO.

Thanks for the info and the welcome.

I recently found this site, I've been a Saab owner since 1984. It started with a  79 EMS,  82 Turbo, 84 Turbo, 90 Turbo, 00 9-3 SE (both pictured in my avatar), and I just recently got an 03 Aero Sedan with 70K.   Alot of good info and different perspectives from Saabnet.

I was just re-reading the thread. So in order to get D2S bulbs you have to first buy the XeSparQ adapter??  TIA.

No. The D1S is all in one. The adaptor is if you want to use a D2S bulb which normally has an igniter as a separate item.
