ONE TOUCH ROOF
« on: 22 April 2012, 06:17:59 PM »
Im looking to do a one touch soft top conversion using two dei528t pulse timed relays. Any thoughts or ideas. I've been told its easily possible by auto electricians.

Why do you need a timed relay to do that?

Considering the top down operation ... if you wire across the contacts of the existing switch with a simple toggle switch (one that isn't spring loaded to off/centre)  the top's operation will complete (assuming everything is working correctly and there is enough hydraulic oil) and then stop.

The same would be true of putting the top up again.

So, to my simple mind, all you need is a centre off rocker or toggle.

Maybe one of these on ebay will do the job:  http://bit.ly/JlAZdA

Regards,

Mike

Notes: I haven't looked at the wiring and don't know how much current goes through the switch.  You'd also have to manually put the switch to centre at some point.

Trouble is that I think the switch has many wires that become energised when the switch is pressed.
If it was just one wire I would be fine but I don't think it is.

I found this PDF online - it has a wiring diagram for the top electrics - it suggests its a simple swicth with 3 wires.

Oh yes,  I tried holding down the button after the top has finished its action - when putting down the windows are then lowered all the way.

That may be a problem to you.

That's why I was looking at the timer relays so I could set them.

Is the top operation time consistent?

I'd be tempted to hook into one of the tonneau switch circuits to detect end of operation when putting the top down, or maybe even power to one of the window motors.  Removes issues with timing variations.

Mike
