So...I am interested in upgrading the speaker set in the dash to higher quality drivers. Shouldn't be too hard to do, but I can feel a bit of 'plastic snappage' coming on.

Any advice from those who have done this before?

How good is Frank!!

Good point. Better ones than currently are in there I hope!

Down at the local car audio shop today and it seems they are all made in Vietnam these days! Different labels, same country.
Sony X-Plod, Pioneer (which is what is in the car but Chinese made) and Alpine. Not sure until I get them out and check them out closely.

Latest drama sees CDs go in to the stacker in the dash, and nothing is recognised. CD Error is all I get and a clicking sound. Tried proper discs, freshly burned, everything. No show. Disappointed.

On signal quality.  The AM aerial in the rear window is amplified. It's some of the brown "wires" at the top of the rear screen that look like heating elements but don't heat up.  Are they intact? Any scratch that has broken them?  They can be repaired with metallic repair paint.

The FM signal is filtered to separate it from the electrics, but the aerial is also the heated rear screen.  There's the amp on the right and a filter to earth on the left behind the rear pillar trims.

Check it all works.

I suspect the ariel and/or filter is not working on mine - loads of engine electrics interferenece and rubbish radio FM reception. sgould suggests 'checking it all works' - aside from checking connectors/earths, what can I do to check?

Is the signal quality changing when you turn on the heated rear screen?

Also be aware that the AM signal uses the unheated lines at the top of the rear screen. The FM signal uses the whole of the heated screen.

If you have an estate the aerial is not in the rear screen, it's in the rear side windows as three brown lines.

If you have a convertible, it has an old fashioned aerial, but uses a "convertor" which is behind the trim in front of the driver's door.
