saab 9-5 arc 2.0t smoking query

Saab 9-5 2.0turbo arc ....done 108.000 miles......no pcv upgrade.....im losing one liter of oil aweek and its been smoking a lil bit at startup  and sometimes on traffic lights ....nuffin heavy ...its dark smoke .....got no oil leak visable....my thoughts are turbo is on way out .....my antifreeze is clear red no oil init ....been using 5w30 but now on 10w40 coz of price and frequentcy i have to top up......any help would b great ....p.s. my mpg is 16 to 17 mpg at mo which seems high.....and hello to everyone on the forum .....thanks for having me

If the smoke is dark that sounds like its over rich.

Could be the Lambda sensor on its way out and that is why your MPG is so rubbish.

If oil is being burnt it will be whit smoke.

Probably worth doing the PCV update as this can fix poor oil consumption

If you pop the inlet pipe off the turbo you will see if its wet, this will tell you if your turbo is on its way out.

Hi, my car was similar re the oil.
I managed to sludge it up and seize the turbo. She was leaking a lot of oil and probably burning it due to an inefficient PVC.
Since the PVC upgrade she's fine. I dropped the sump and unseized the turbo.
It's an hours work and 50 quid for the PVC. Sump and turbo was a weekend.
Have you done a sump drop.

I will do all these mods and de sludge sump drop and report back ...i was thinking similar after many posts ...best car i have had in ages ..wish id bought one years ago..thank you for your help ..have a great weekend

afternoon gents and ladies ......quick update since i last logged on ....fitted the pcv update and renewed all revelent pipes,new lambda sensor (top one ).......got 29.3mpg  on the sips now ......found my sump leaking badly ....gona do this and report back .......thank you for help last month ....hows everybody hanging

Still smoking on start up..now even more with the pcv update...also my spark plug indicate a really rich mixture,p.s itswhite smoke
