Parking sensor problem - intermittent (at the moment)
« on: 16 August 2013, 12:35:41 PM »
A bit odd this one.

On the 2003 9-3 sports saloon, the parking sensors work OK while parking.

But from time to time, if you stop the car near an obstacle with the park assist bleeping, it continues to bleep when you move the auto selector out of R.  And when this happens, it continues to bleep even when the ignition is off, the key is removed, the door is opened and closed and you have locked the car and started to walk away.

If you turn the ignition back on and move the selector from P to R and back again the bleep usually stops.

I recall reading about some kind of update for the SPA system (or possibly ICM, I can't remember) to resolve this bug, probably involves a Tech-II session and not something I've ever actually had to do myself.

No idea how any of that 'white man's magic' electrickery works but if it were more mechanical I would say that sounds rather like a sticking switch

She only told me yesterday and I heard it myself once, but we were in a hurry, so I didn't do any checks.

First thing is to see if the reversing lights stay on.

Strange; my Aero 9-3 manual did this a couple of weeks ago. Not sure what caused it. But I fired up the engine, put it in reverse and back to neutral and it fixed it. Touch wood nothing since

I think this is a good suggestion - I know moisture plays havoc with parking sensors - at least it does on my fathers newish BMW

Personally not having rear parking sensors on my Linear I always get SWMBO to get out of the car and tell me how much room I have behind the car.

So if I hit something it's not my fault.......
