TYRES INFO WANTED
« on: 07 July 2011, 11:41:10 AM »
I'm thinking of fitting HiFly tyres "(Hifly is manufactured by Shandong Henfeng Rubber & Plastic Co in its 'state of the art', 80 million square metre manufacturing facility in DongYing, using the latest manufacturing equipment from Europe, the U.S. and Japan)" unquote.

03 Aero estate, will fit 225/45/17 94W XL. I don't rag it much - mostly 75 mph on the motorway; only occasional red mist moments...

Has anyone tried these tyres? Advice would be greatly appreciated.

(Yes, this is a repeat of a post on SaabScene - I'm still on there as well. I don't like it as much since the ads started appearing, and navigation on it became slower, possibly as a result, but I still use it. You can't have too many SAAB websites to seek minformation on...)

Welcome!

I recently fitted Falkens all around on our Aero - same size as yours.
Delighted with them!

I've never heard of them!! :)

You could check the price of comparable tyres on the web at www.blackcircles or www.mytyres.  Also Neuton NT5000 tyres from Neo Brothers have been found acceptable by many.

I've not heard of HiFly either. :-\

If you can find someone locally to fit for you, then www.camskill.co.uk offer very cheap prices for tyres alone. I've used Falken 452s and have been very impressed with them.

I've had experience of a lot of budget tyres and to be honest the only ones I've ever had problems with are chinese one's (sunny) as they don't balance.
I would however say there's not much difference in price between budget and mid range so if you can get mid range I'd fit them  ;)

Nope I've not heard of HiFly either.

Budget tyres used to be a no-no with me, but I think they seem to be getting more respectable nowadays.

I ran Toyo Proxes on both my Hyundai Coupe and Pug 306 and loved them. Some people had an issue with them not wearing too well but I never felt them to have poor wear qualities.

I'm not sure what people prefer on their SAABs particularly the later convertible 9 3 as I am new to the marque and won't be buying tyres for a while just yet.

Mines not a convertible but.....Do not go for Bridgestone Potenza runflats  ::) I did and I'm doing my best to scrub them away as soon as poss, too harsh over bumps and tend to tram line  >:(

So it goes to show, you can spend a few quid on tyres and they can still be rubbish  ::)

I've had a pair of the Neutons on the back wheels of my vert for the last 18,000 miles, quiet, grip well and still 6mm of tread on them.

I did a bit of searching around, and Will came up with Falkens as a recommendation.

I have a Falken on the N/S/F, but the other three will need doing soon. Just for interest I looked at other makes in the appropriate size on the website I found my Falken on, and the HiFly came up - at £48! Hence my question.

I put Neutons on the 9 5 Tdi wagen............. thought they were ok, a bit wooden when cold, not the quietest, but good value.

Falkens on this one, an Aero........................... much better, but  it is summer and they cost twice as much.

Falkens FK452 all around. Bought at camskill (I think it was £310 delivered), fitted and balanced at local kwik-fit (£20 I think)...

Quite good tyres, relatively low noise, good grip in wet and dry...

I'll be going for a set of Neutons shortly. Only negative I could find about them online was that they weren't that great in the winter, though I already have a set of Nokian winter tyres, so that shouldn't be a problem.  ;D

I have Falken FK452's all-round. They have about 32k kms on them now and the tread is still pretty good but they have worn badly on the inside, despite the alignment being ok. The tyres were also rotated regularly.

They handle quite well but are extremely noisy at freeway speeds. I drove from Cape Town to Gauteng (Johannesburg) in April last year (about 1500km) and was extremely frustrated as the tyres spoiled an otherwise superb drive!

They will not last as long as the OEM Michelin Sports did (67000 kms) but at half the price of the Michelin it's not too bad! I wouldn't buy them again though.
