Traction control fault
« on: 29 September 2014, 07:13:53 PM »
Hi all.ok went to go out yesterday after car stood overnight and car info system said traction control fault contact service and car would not turn over.i was in a hurry so was not sure what to try so disconnected the battery for short period and this cleared the fault and car started fine and drove without issues all day.went to work today no probs but when time to go home got same fault again.a friend tried to read fault codes with a wireless obd reader but would not connect to ecu,so once again did battery trick and car started again and strangely then friends obd connected to the ecu and said no stored codes which I presume was because I had disconnected the battery and cleared the codes if was any stored.any pointers please, maybe traction control module???

Probably a faulty CIM module, the ecu behind the steering wheel. It controls access to most of the car and they do fail, this will cause the traction error message as it's what connects the p-bus to the i-bus and also recognises keys.

Thanks audax.do you think my next step would be to try to get a fault code when it happens again or should I go ahead and book it into my nearest saab indie at m.keynes

I'd see how it goes maybe, but to be honest once this has happened a couple of times it's just likely to get worse. It's up to you but I don't think there's any easy way out it might be worth working on getting it checked now as I believe that some of the CIM modules can be hard to get hold of.

Yes ,I will play it by ear.i see neo,s are selling cim,s for around 260pound but they seem to look like ignitions with keys??would these be the modules you think could be the issue...??

Yes, that's the CIM module, if the CIM can't speak to the engine/power bus then the car won't start, the other symptom being that it will say traction fault is because the traction/gearbox/engine ECU are all on the P-bus which is reached via the CIM.
