Strange light
« on: 31 January 2016, 03:45:26 PM »
Under the ESP button on the dash, there's a green light; I always assumed it was a repeater for trailer indicator lights.

This morning - for the first time since we've had the car (5 years) - it came on and stayed on. It's still on now, two hours after the car was parked and locked. Now it's illuminated, I notice there's a black logo printed on the glass, which I've shown in the attached picture.

Can anyone tell me what it's for and how I can turn it off! (I've also noticed that, although we have a Bosal removable tow bar, there are no electrical trailer sockets on the car.

It's the light from the kit that goes with the tow bar electrics to you let you know that you have a light failure on the trailer.

Do you have a copy of EAC/AIC as the instructions are in there for adding it. Sounds like maybe someone did a hatchet job on the electrics and it could do with being properly removed.

Ha ha! Obvious now that the symbol is a tow bar - just turned on its side - thanks, Audax. Fumbling about underneath in the dark, there IS a trailer socket. The car's been sat outside in the snow for a week and I'm guessing enough water has got into the plug socket to short something. Will investigate, drain and report tomorrow.

We could start a caption competition on what else the symbol could be....or is that more the sort of thing they have on Honda type R or ford ST forum? Is that correct plural of forum?

jmblack - I'll have whatever you're drinking! (BTW: 'fora')  :)
No water in the socket so I've simply disconnected the bulb for now. Thanks to all who responded.

You could have a problem with your "Anhangerblinküberwachtung mit Abschaltrelais für Nebelschlußlicht" :)

It's the box that controls the warning light and cuts off the rear foglight when the trailer is connected.  Basically, it does what is says on the tin!!

Mine is in the boot.  Right at the rear on the right.

It was fitted before I got the car, and it's not fitted correctly.  The long cable that should go to the light at the front is bundled up behind the trim in the boot, with a dummy load (relay) attached to the end. :(
