Gasket replacement

Silly question alert!!!!

Presumably when cleaning the MAF sensr and throttle body, the gasket or rubber seal should be replaced with a new part.

Do these gaskets have to be smeared with any sort of sealer or oil before everything is put back together?

No sealant.  But I usually wipe the area and the gasket with a touch of oil so that it can move a bit to even out any local stresses. 

If you are pushing a pipe through an O ring, then you need plenty of lubricant to stop the O ring seal being dragged out of place.  If something is just sitting on a rubber seal, the tiny bit of oil is there just to let it squirm a bit in the groove and settle in evenly.

Thanks Will. Was going to look at cleaning sensors today only to find I hadn't got any gaskets anyway :D So washed and polished the car instead.....

Which means there will be pics in the gallery soon, and more questions in the 9-3ss forum :D ::) ::) ha ha

When I cleaned the MAF,MAP and IAT sensors,i smeared the o rings with a small amount of silicone lubricant with a cotton bud..Found it easier to relocate sensor by twisting and push at the same time...

I'll second the silicone grease method Aerojon speaks of

Silicone grease won't damage rubber seals; but you will only need the thinnest of coatings
