Too much 'road rage?'
« on: 24 July 2025, 09:41:44 AM »
noticed yesterday the horn on my NG is now single tone, wanting to berate the little toerag in his Polo who had his head down looking at his lap rather than the road in front of him, lost count of the number of times he had to brake suddenly.

So, who knows about NG9-5 horns - single units or 2? easy replacement?  Guess same item as Insignia.

The horn is a two piece item, located near the nearside bumper grille, part number 13 332 688

There's one on ebay for £25. I suspect Insignia are the same, but maybe with a different bracket, so different part number

I had a look in the manual, there are 2 separate fuses for the horn  and it looks like one has burnt out, but doesn't look like there are any spares in the car, so I will have to buy some fuses and check this first...surprisingly there seemed to be no fuses where I expected some to be (mirror heating being one)...

will report back after my trip to Austria

The one on ebay had gone so sourced one from Ron Saab Leeds and it has just arrived.  Tried playing with the fuses but still one horn out of action.

Is the removal of the front bumper a 2 man job or can it be done 'solo'.  If it requires a bit more manpower then I will ask Joe to fit it at the next MOT/service.

I have removed the front bumper by myself. Made easier due to it being on a ramp and having a bodyshop trestle to put the bumper on when it fist comes off the car. Definitely doable.

The trickiest part is persuading the bumper section at the rear of the headlights to free itself to the outside in a way that doesn't threaten the headlight trim. Doable with care, having done it on two cars.
