Garage/workshop heating
« on: 15 November 2025, 10:46:47 AM »
Having had a nice new tandem garage built this year, and with the Aero sitting in there most of the time at the moment, my mind turned to various jobs on the car I could be getting on with. But as it is now winter, I was wondering if I should invest in some sort of portable heater to make working in there a bit more bearable at this time of year!!

There seem to be some cheap heaters on the Screwfix/Toolstation websites, but the garage is something like 10m long, so quite a big volume to heat up. And then I think of what the electricity bill might be!!!

So I was jjst wondering what the rest of you guys use for warming your workshops in the winter months, or do you even bother?

I don't have a heater in my garage but I do run a dehumidifier when it climbs above 60%rh, in order to keep condensation off my various two-wheeled toys, though as an upside that also makes it more usable for storing things that would otherwise suffer in a damp garage. Worth considering for that reason. That has the effect of a warming up the space too. I couldn't really comment on running costs cos it's just something I've always done. I suspect the cheapest way of simply heating the space would be a plug-in oil-filled rad?
