Battery tray fixing bolts/screws
« on: 08 December 2025, 05:34:13 PM »
Ok silly but hopefully simple question. What is the size of the three torx head screws/bolts that hold the battery tray in place. I butchered one to get it out, and just want to get another (though doesn't have to have a torx head on it).

It's a black screw - is that of any significance?

It will almost certainly be a metric thread.  You can buy mixed packets of nuts and bolts from most DIY shops.  It’s likely to be M4, M5 or M6.  Use a nut to check the size of the existing bolt.  Cut the new one to length if necessary.  Maybe use some thread lock. You don’t want the tray and battery coming loose.  I can’t seethe colour of the bolt being an issue.

I got some bolts and washers from Wickes yesterday so will try them. i think they were M5 and M6 20mm long bolts.

I wasnt sure if the current ones being black was some sort of corrosion, or anti corrosion measure. But that said, the head of the screw I had to butcher was rusty, hence why it rounded!!!! :o

Do you have a set of verier calipers to measure the thread outside diameter?

You can then use this table to help determine the thread size

https://www.engineersedge.com/hardware/metric-external-thread-sizes1.htm

If a standard 10mm not will go on, then it'll be an M6 thread, 13mm will be M8

Toolstation can be handy for general fixings, ebay will get you the full range if you don't have a local merchant
