Anyone replaced a motor and winder cable mechanism in the front door?

Something has broken :(

I can only find one part number for this mechanism, but I think I read somewhere that there should be different parts for the cars with comfort close, which our car has.

Sorry, can't help, but I was wondering how your weekend was going with SWMBO's window problem after your recent posts. Good luck.

Pretty straightforward to get in and look.  I've only had this afternoon to look.

I've had a look at the parts list again and found the right part.  But it's been superseded by a later fitting which, if fitted, needs a later door module.

I think I need to get all the parts together before I take any more parts out, or the car won't be secure or weatherproof.

New regulator time..this the only pt#12793729 i can find

comfort open & close are the motor & switches i believe not the regulator....

That part is the one I have taken off, although our car is so early, it should be a different part number.  I wonder if it's been changed before.....

When I got in there I found that the hub the cables wind around had lost part of a flange, so the wires had fallen off and jammed in the spindle.  That explains why the up switch was dropping the window an inch and then winding it up!!

Here's a picture of the mechanism.

And this is the broken flange that let the wires fall off:

New mechanism should arrive from Peter at Euro-Saab-Parts-Direct tomorrow.  I hope it's a nice warm dry day!!

Well it's a warm day and it all went back in with no problem!! :)

It's all set up and there's not adjustment to make on anything.

Even the pinch protection/comfort close works!!

While checking it all out, I just had the door module switch connected to the door.  The link to the lock/unlock buttons on the door was left undone.  That threw an "Immobiliser Failure.  Try starting again.  Contact Service" message.  But it didn't prevent me from starting the car and moving it about.  So something got confused.

All OK when reconnected properly.

A good result!

The people who design these things should be held to account. Probably the same ones who designed retractable electric aerials.

The cable hub on the new one is made of different plastic.  Box says Made in Germany.  I can't see a place of manufacture on the old one.

But SWMBO reckoned that I had saved her enough money that we could afford to go out for a nice meal.  So we went early so we could vote  on the way home.  But we were relaxed and took our time....

.....at 9.45 I said "Shall we pay the bill and go and vote?  Or shall we have another coffee?".  She said "Coffee" :o

i spray my window rubbers with this every 2-3 months, keeps the glass running freely & reducing the stress on the window mech & associated parts..

Good call John! (Thumbs-up smiley needed here)

I find the spray gets on the glass or upholstery.  I have a tube of rubber grease that I smear carefully onto things like that  :o
