Quote from: Kev_Mc on 07 March 2013, 05:06:37 PMI got a quote as low as £220 for my 9-5 TiD Estate, though I went for L&V in the end for around £400 as I'd rather pay more for a better service if you need to use them.

I switched to LV (from Privilege) last time around as well. They were a bit cheaper but I was also motivated by their reputation.

Good for you! If they don't want to be competitive, take your business elsewhere  >:(

One thing in their favour is that the guy didn't try and argue and tell me their product was better blah blah blah blah that I've had in the past from other companies when I've been wanting to cancel, I was honest and told him I had quotes for £350 for UK based insurers and £280 from the slightly dodgy ones based elsewhere in the EU so I wanted a good price. He just admitted he couldn't do anything and let me cancel with no problem at all so kudos to them for that.

Agreed, if he can't do it it's not his fault and top marks for not giving you the whole Schpeel about how much better their policy is.

Still a shame that customer loyalty is penalised these days though.

Chris Knott just turned me down flat.

Apparently because I have a claim in my name (different car, different policy, different driver...just my car and insurance....I wasn't even in it at the time!) in the last 12 months, they won't offer insurance because the car is modified.

15 years without so much as a scratch with me at the helm....

both my wifes and I insurance was due to be renewed with saga.I phoned them and said I had better
quotes with compare the market. I saved £90.00 ON MY SAAB 93 TTDI £180.00 with ptno/claims.
my wife mica saved £65.00 and free legal cover@pro no/claims only £88.00 both with saga.
ask and see what they offer

I suspect there are no "good" insurance companies....The ONLY time you will know is if & when you claim.

I would always shop around.   2009 2.3 Turbo Edition estate in Leicester came in at £351 last year with Axa....40-something, business use + SWMBO, ~20K miles pa (although keeping that down these days!), includes cover for euro holidays......
Previous years include Norwich Union, RAC, Sainsburys......& always go via Quidco, it is often possible to get further cashback in the tens of pounds !!

When we got our previous Saab, I was given a free 7 day cover through what was then Oxford Saab. At the end of that, I was invited to take out Saab insurance for an astronomical £500+. I eventually ended up with Nowell & Richards (the broker that my lad used to be with for his Evo) They tend to cover specialist cars, but gave me cover with Aviva including their £25 admin fee for only £267; this was in April 2010. The following year the renewal was from memory about £280. Last year it came out at about £310. They have just sent me a renewal for £411. I went on the little furry animal website and got a quote of £315. When N & R called to say that they had not managed to get any lower quotes, I advised tham that the furry ones had quoted £315 and that (as my OH is with the AA for her Sportka) I would be ckecking the AA to see what they could do. Well, I have obtained a quote of £286, so N & R can 'do one'. I will be calling them tomorrow to give them the news. As my lad only pays £411 for his Evo with Chaucer Insurance (BTW, I was with them with my Model 'A' Roadster replica for a very reasonable £200 a few years ago), all mods declared, I wonder why mine would have been so high.

This insurance lark is becoming a joke. Spoke to the AA just now. They advised new quote of £289.65 (gone up 3 quid in a few days!)
, but to add my lad (totally clean, HGV driver etc) would put it up to over £430. Cannot understand how that can be; I asked why the difference and they said it was purely due to the additional driver. Yet N & R only wanted £20 extra for him. When Mr AA calls back in a minute I am going to query that. I will probably still go AA though, as my lad only uses the car about once a month and although one cannot speak for other drivers on the road, he is not a boy racer so his DOC will have to do.
Direct line have come up about a tenner dearer, but they kindly called me within a few minutes of getting the on-line quote.
Regarding how quotes can alter within a few days, N & R's was originally £411, but today it is £420, and £440 with the lad on. There is nothing in any of the on-line quotes I have obtained to say how long the quote will be valid for. Robin Bar Stewards.....

In the end (AA never did call back) I went with Churchill via Confused.com. Came out including legal cover and hire car and three of us on the policy for £292. Result. OOOooohhh yes (now joined the nodding dog brigade lol)

Yes I find it odd that quotes with the same companies will change from day to day, even though all the details remain the same.

Glad you got a good result in the end though. :)

Yes, it is strange. However, the quote from Confused/Churchill stated on the bottom that it was valid until 4 May, so some of them are OK. Definitely a good result; 2000 Nectar points, and the legal cover, same price as AA, at £26.50, gives £100k as opposed to £50k with AA and a lot of others. The gorl at Churchill was very pleasant and explained everything carefully and in easy-to-understand lingo.

So what the heck is going on.   My renewal quote has come in:
Last year's quote
£351.47
This year's quote
£308.87

Where do I sign?    This could be a year for not bothering to look around :-)

Petemate

Who is that with Mike? (Mods - just curious, not wishing to activate advertising on a 3rd party basis - lol)

Hi there,
I'm with AXA.   This is very unusual: as I think I said, most years I phone around & hop somewhere different, happy in the knowledge that whoever you're with will try to fleece you when it comes to any claim....but this year I may make that a rather more cursory look :-)

cheers

Thought I ought to at least take a look (via Quidco & Confused), & I find Esure offering me fully comp cover for the princely sum of £234....with a total excess of £400 instead of my current £600.    Churlish not to move, methinks!

I'm sure there is a snag: quick google found some complaints on Pistonheads suggesting they do real proper ropey repairs....but then I would suggest if that happened, one should insist on it being done properly - in fact we made a repairer take 3 efforts on MrsW's Mazda 323 many years ago after a foggy double shunt was bodged, all ended well in the end ;-)

Tempted to switch - even if I moved to paying monthly, the cost would only be £252 !

Oh yes, & my 9-5 passed his MOT today with no advisories, at the ex-Saab dealer (now Hyundai) with a half-price MOT offer on :-)

Welcome any thoughts

Important thing is to insist on car going to repairer YOU want not the insurers preferred repairer. They can't make you. You might end up with it taking a bit longer as approval process is slower and you may not get the repairers tiny courtesy car, but I think this is pretty much true if every insurer.
