The old girl (2.2tid) is giving a lot of trouble at the moment. I'm getting a lot of P0106 and P0243 at the moment. It has now got to the stage that I can only go about 20 miles before she drops into limp.

Drove back from Peterborough yesterday and had to pull in three times to reset.

Anybody got any good ideas? :(

Audax

I'd go for either a split in the intercooler or associated hoses.

twosaabs

Cheers. Turbo in and out and the one on the offside down to the intercooler  look OK, I will have to wait for the weather to improve before grovelling to look at the nearside bottom ones. Any idea if there is a "usual" place for these to fail?

Audax

It's been a while but either the hose from intercooler to manifold or (more commonly) the intercooler itself.

twosaabs

It was the intercooler.

She also needs rear suspension, bushes and rose joints, and possibly front discs. Getting beyond economics. A shame but there we go.

A pity, but do some sums.  You won't get a reliable car unless you buy one with a substantial warranty.  If your current car is bodily sound, it's probably worth repairing.

Bear in mind that the value of a car is irrelevant if it's old, and you keep it until it falls apart.

If you can do the work yourself, it might be worthwhile, although you'll need some special tools for the rose joints, and compressors for the rear springs.

No point in doing the intercooler without doing the hoses methinks. It all adds up.

I don't really have the facilities to do serious car surgery anymore and I am past the age of grovelling in the gravel to fix stuff

sgould

I'm well past the age of doing anything, but on the days I work on the car I avoid going to the gym! ;)

Don't know if you'll be interested but I have given up on both my cars and have a intercooler for sale and loads of other bits

It's a thought. We are off on holidays for the next ten days and will make final decisions when I get back.

no worries, its only 3 years old and definitely doesn't leak, did the inner tube test on it only the other day
