speed pulse signal on '04 9-5 aero estate?

Can anyone advise me where best to locate a speed pulse signal for my Alpine Sat-Nav?

Alpine tech support say that I should be able to find a white connector under the A pillar and connect to the purple wire on pin 16 but I've not been able to find this white connector.

The speed signal going to the MIU is on pin 28 (violet) or possibly pin29 (orange)of the 33 way connector located behind the fuse panel near the steering wheel.

Although the factory unit has a speed input for speed dependent volume control, this is via the I bus, and not directly accessible
