Does any one have any recommendations where to get winter tyre/wheel combinations at a reasonable price. Also what would the recommended tyre chose be (9-3 hirsched Tid sportswagen 06) to replace the 225/45R17,I've been told the narrower the tyre the better they dig through the snow.

I've used both 16 and 17" winter tyres on a 95 and a 93 convertible. In the most extreme weather the 16 were better but in normal" snow no real difference. 16" were a bit poorer when flat out in dry as you'd expect. Attraction of 16" was that spare wheels and tyres were a bit cheaper.

There's another thread where I and others have given views on different tyres - ill have a look to find it.

Mytyres. Co. uk are good for steel wheel and tyre combos, although other threads showing great deals on new alloys from a Saab dealer clearance website - someone else will recall name.

Prices of tyres will be escalating now it's December so be wary.....

Tried a few types, and am as a result great fan of Nokian - great winter tyre that performs well in wet and dry too.

Hope this helps.

Look under off topic chat/winter tyre reviews

I don't know how to link direct but it should be easy to find.
