Anyone tried painting the specs? Saw a black aero on auto trader that looked great with specs painted black. Wife's car in grey - needs front bumper repainted for chips and wondering if I might paint specs too.

If I do, does surface if well prepared take paint well? If I do it is it better black or body colour (or best left alone!).

Any thoughts welcome!

Chrome parts on cars can be painted yes, just have to be well keyed and the right primers applied. Easy job  :)

Thanks - so possible, but good idea or folly??...

I've seen a picture of a red car with black specs.  Looks better that it should.

Not sure about painting them body colour.  Might make the lights look small.

Hirsch did a satin finish set of bits for the chrome.  Looked good but not for me at that price!

Agree on the hirsch ones!

The black car looked good but the again it was black....

The specs are the one thing I really don't like on the car. They look ok on my silver car but not so good on the grey one! It's what really lets the looks down.

Thinking might go black, but worried it then might look odd.

Hmmmm....

Found this from Abbott:

The black one looks great I think. Even the lighter colour is an improvement in body colour match. My grey would probably have a similar effect.

I didn't think I would - but I actually do like that  ::)

Absolutely paint them body colour. Anyone know how they come off?

sgould

You take the bumper off and release the grille clips from the back.

Need a star shaped screwdriver blade.

Geoff1951

Halfords have them, singly or in sets.

sgould

There should be one that fits in the toolkit in the boot.  The screwdrivers there are double ended, so if you don't see the right one. pull the shaft out of the handle and look at the other end.

have to say £295 fittted from Abbott is steep for what it is but if they bring it down to £195 think there may be alot more takers
