Is it true that the 2 speakers either side of the parcel shelf are just standard 6x9's? If so are they easy to remove and replace. (my left speaker cant handle any songs with any remote amount of bass!!)

Yes, they are 6x 9. I've no expereince of swapping them for an aftermarket unit though. 9000 speakers are a straight swap; whether that's the same for the 9-3 I couldn't say :)

Should be the same as with the GM900. I fitted aftermarket ones, and this made the world of difference.

Tried my brothers old kenwood 6x9's and they were too big to sit flush on the shelfr, not sure which ones to put in, anyone know any speakers that def fit?

cheers

Try a set of Infinitys of the same dimension that came out - I transformed the sound in my old Citroen with them

I fitted a set of kenwoods in my 900 last year.yes they are slightly too big,so all i did was mount them under the shelf instead of on top of it.much better than the cardboard standard speakers :)

Our's were JDL speakers, BTW.

You may (or may not  :D) be interested to know that you can further transform the sound you get from your speakers by making your own parcel shelf from some medium density fibre-board (mdf).
I did this on a couple of my old cars and it greatly improved the sound quality.
The shelf was made with some grilles recessed into the speaker apertures from the top side of the shelf, and the speakers mounted from underneath, the whole shelf was then covered in acoustically-transparent carpet-type fabric, spray-glued on, resulting in a totally standard look that concealed some very expensive speakers

Try Googling something like "make  your own mdf  parcel shelf" and you will find a lot of info. Obviously this is a far easier job on a hatchback type shelf designed to lift up or be removed!

Thank you for the suggestion, just trying to keep everything on the car original Im too old for for modding.

I knew that.I built my own sub box housing 2 kenwood 12" 400 watt subs ;D As freddie says though i wanted to keep the car standard so the box is still stored away.....until i get a boy racer car ;D
