Oil Leaking

Was told its from one corner of the head gasket and that its a common problem on these ... any one know of a remedy, I thinking of getting a new unit off Neo Bros is it worth me getting the head cracked and putting in a different head gasket.

Engine leaking oil is a pet hate of mine no matter how small the leak  >:(

If you can get to the area easily, you could try degreasing it as much as possible and spraying clear engine lacquer onto the offending area.
It was a trick I used to stop motorbike crankcases from leaking and although supposed to be temporary, virtually cured the problem

Yeah I was thinking more for the new unit I plan on putting in, be easier to do it whilst the engine is out type of thing.

TBH I have had a look at engine thats leaking now and I cant really see were its coming from.

In all honesty, I wouldn't bother trying to chase down oil leaks on a 9-5 engine (unless they're really bad!), as soon as you fix one leak you'll just find another.

You could try re-torquing the head bolts and you can try Trenchfoot's suggestion, but taking the head off for an insignificant oil leak? I really can't see the point.

Think of it as an advanced engine and chassis corrosion protection system.  8)

MMMmmm. Do I take it that you have, in past years, been a Triumph owner Mark? ;)

The 9000's suffered with the same leak in the corner of the head gasket. I replaced my head gasket after getting the head skimmed and making sure everything was perfectly clean.

It was fine for the first 6 months but then it started again.

I think they must leak when the car is cold because short journeys to the shops and the like would see it quite wet but 1500 miles in 2 days and it almost dried up. :o

;D haha quality ... I just find it so annoying, like a fly in the ointment not to mention the oil is 60 quid a go so Im not so keen to lose a drop

I can appreciate that but.... how much oil could you buy to replace the very very small amount (think like 50ml between oil changes at most!) you lose for the cost/time/effort of doing a head gasket?  :P

I owned a string of machines but not a Triumph. My dad raced (successfully) a Velocette MOV 250, before moving on to racing cars. The engine lacquer was a trick I learned from him.
