Tonight we did a trip to Tesco as I had a 10p/litre discount voucher. I'd been running the 9-5 towards very empty and managed to get 73l in the car (before the discount it was over £100 of fuel!).
Anyhow, as we sat on the forecourt we joined a queue of 3 cars at one set of pumps (2 were at pumps already) and waited in turn as the station was quite busy. So, we sat there, and sat there, after 5 minutes the second car in front had left (nobody was with either car when we turned up so we assumed they were paying) and the BMW in front of us went up to the pump, the car at the pump in front of that still had no sign of a driver for the entire time we'd spent there so far. So, I watched the BMW driver get out of her car and start to try to put fuel in, after another 5 minutes had passed she'd managed to get some fuel into the car, I commented to my partner that I wasn't an expert on BMW models but that if it was a 325i then it was probably petrol and that was why the driver was struggling to put diesel in it.

After another couple of minutes the woman realised what she had done wrong (after spilling about 1/4l of diesel onto the floor and over her car) and went to pay for the diesel and came back to put petrol in.
By now we'd been at the petrol station 15 minutes! (it wasn't like the other queues were much quicker by now) and finally the driver of the car in front of the BMW finally reappeared (what on earth they'd been doing I don't know) and proceeded to get into her car and then start playing with her phone, do her makeup and god knows what else and drove off. I pulled around the BMW and reversed back to the pump and put the 73l of fuel in and was done in under 5 minutes with filling the car and paying.
I also had the same experience about a month ago where we went to a petrol station and parked behind a BMW X3 at a pump as the driver was nowhere to be seen, after 5 minutes sitting there I managed to reverse back and get onto another pump which still had people who I swear didn't know what they were doing and take 15 minutes to fill up. When I got back to the car the X3 was still at the pump with no driver in sight and we pulled off to one side so we could have a drink and some young woman finally arrived back at her car *25* minutes after we had arrived at the station having done a small bit of shopping.
Is it just me that is unlucky like this? Is it time to bring back attended service? I usually fill up later at night as the stations are much quieter then but every time I try to get fuel during the day it turns in a complete mission!
